Ed Sneddon, one of Derwent London's Development Managers, has just returned from a six day marathon charity cycle to the MIPIM Property Fair in Cannes.
Starting in London, Ed pedalled over 1,500 kms to be met in Cannes by London Mayor Boris Johnson. Ed was one of only six cyclists to ride the entire distance, while the majority of participants ran the event on a relay basis.
The annual marathon event, Cycle to Cannes, raised more than £173,000 for charity, with the 63 participants all professionals from the fields of architecture, development and planning.
Ed raised £2,300 for his gruelling six day ride, with Derwent London donating a further £2,000 to the event.
When asked what the hardest part of the ride was, Ed, who covered more than 250 kms per day, said, 'I think it was the sheer number of hours in the saddle. It really takes its toll on your shoulders and backside. The camaraderie was great though and it was all for a good cause.'
Mayor Johnson said of the cyclists, 'I take my cycling helmet off to these intrepid adventurers...It's a fantastic achievement but most importantly their pain will be rewarded by the good work that can by carried out bythe charities they are supporting.'
The money raised will go the the charities Article 25, The Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust, The Sarah Matheson Trust, LandAid and The Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
