The Grand Depart!
05 Mar 2015
Finally, after 4 months of training and what feels like thousands of miles, we are off.
Unfortunately Nigel has had to pull out due to a crash during training. An injured wrist and chipped bone is not good for cycling it seems! Don't worry Nigel - it happened to Froome last year in the Tour de France! Down to Rich and I to fly the Derwent flag.
I must admit, I was feeling a little nervous this morning, mainly because I was worried about getting a puncture on the way to the start line! However, I relaxed considerably when my husband, Chris, kindly agreed to cycle in with me at 5.30 am this morning and wave us off from the start line.
The start line was at Coram's HQ near Kings Cross and the Asset Management team from Derwent arrived to provide team support and send us on our way (mainly incentivised by breakfast and lots of coffee). Thanks guys - we love you!
I have to say the atmosphere was great and at 9am sharp the peloton left London and made their way towards deepest darkest Kent.....
