British artist and speculative engineer James Capper has spent the last two years developing, building and finally exhibiting MUDSKIPPER; a fully mobile sculpture that can traverse land and sea using two hydraulic jacks.
Capper transformed the former commercial boat from the 1980s into an ambitious project that spans the fields of art, science and engineering. In September last year, the artwork was able to cruise the Thames and then mount the edge of the riverbed using its new metal legs and TREAD PADS, an iteration of which is currently on view in our Brunel Building reception atrium.
